About national cyber exercises
JYVSECTEC is committed to improve Finland’s national cyber resiliency. Four annual national cyber exercises (KYHA exercises) are aimed to municipality and critical infrastructure organizations, Finnish state administration organizations, security authorities and healthcare organizations. The Ministry of Transport and Communications enables the national cyber exercises, and Security Committee assists in coordination and implementation of exercises.
Cyber exercises strengthens actors and their systems
We summarized a few key takeaways from the 2023 exercises:
- JYVSECTEC organized one of the largest technical-operational cyber exercises in history. The exercise, aimed at security authorities, involved over 200 participants from nearly 20 organizations. The exercise also included the state’s “cyber fist,” whose task is, among other things, to ensure that the national responsible actors participating in the exercise have a consistent situational picture of the state of society’s cybersecurity.
- In Finland, the wellbeing regions form five cooperation areas. The actors participating in the healthcare KYHA exercise engaged in cyber training for the first time after the formation of the new cooperation areas (YTA).
- Services used by citizens were hardened in a cyber exercise aimed at the state administration, in which several attacks were carried out against state administration systems, the problems of which would affect several services used by citizens.
